Break the Walls

I love the reflection of this week. Have you ever been fearful to love someone? In a conversation I had had, something was made apparent. Depending on how you were raised, what you’ve witnessed or the hurt that you carry. We can sometimes be too afraid to express the love that we feel towards the next person because the previous time we did that, it was unrequited or it was taken advantage of, essentially it ended badly. Such incidents can have such profound effects on how we perceive love and how we choose to express it. Sometimes we immediately build walls because who wouldn’t? And if you’re healthy you’ll step into it with grace and face it but in most cases though when we hurt we want to build walls to protect ourselves but the issue then comes when this style of coping becomes so ingrained and automatic that when we meet someone with whom we are allowed to love and express it, we simply have no way to answer them because we’ve buried our capacity to do so deep down and this for me is a bit tragic. Admittedly, this is me as well at times I admit that, but I guess at some point we honestly need to heal because walls will box you and define you whether others do it or you for yourself; you’ll be stuck inside looking outside and wishing you were on the other side and able to hold someone else’s hand. None of life is easy but all of it is worth it, find those who are worth the trouble and on your way, you will be burned but life becomes worth it when we learn from it not cower from it. It’s these moments that grant us the wisdom that gets passed on to the next person and if necessary the next generation but ultimately we all need a little bit of love, we all need someone to look at us with care. I hope that your past isn’t robbing you of your present. I hope you are with or find someone who truly sees you and still knows that you are worth it. But above all else; I hope that you see you and know that you are worth the effort.
